BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT -TIPS
– Allow hair to grow out for 2-3 weeks or 1/2 inch, whichever is longer. Do NOT trim or buzz. The more follicles/roots we can pull, the cleaner the wax, the longer it is going to last, and the happier you are going to be.
– If you have low pain tolerance, take ibuprofen 30-45 mins prior to waxing to minimize discomfort.
– Avoid caffeine or alcohol as it can make your skin more sensitive.
POST-WAXING/SUGARING - TIPS
– REMEMBER the first time is always the worst time. Regular waxing will reduce discomfort as well as hair growth.
– Do NOT shave between services. For the best long-term results, stay consistent at the beginning with services every 4-6 weeks.
– Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours.
– Avoid hot baths/showers, saunas, sun exposure, and products for the first 24-48 hours.
– Avoid tight-fitting clothes for the first 24-48 hours.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR INGROWN HAIRS?.
1. Exfoliate - and moisturize, every day between services is key. The only times you don’t want to exfoliate are the day before, the day of, and the day after your Sugaring appointment. Make sure your exfoliator is taking off all your dead skin in-between appointments – if your hair is growing under a layer of dead skin, it is probably time for you to get a new loofah or exfoliating mitt. Exfoliating and moisturizing daily will not only keep skin happy, healthy, and super soft, but it’ll make the sugaring process much easier. Regularly taking off dead skin cells and keeping live skin cells plump and hydrated will help you avoid ingrown hairs and other unsightly irritation.
* do not exfoliate or apply lotion on the day of your service.*
IS THIS GOING TO HURT?
It hurts more the first time than any other time because you are pulling out 100% of the hair, your nerves are on edge, and you are most likely nervous and don’t know what to expect. You will experience a quick, temporary sting that stops hurting right away. By far the worst part for most people is the anticipation, not the actual removal! Follow all the tips you will be given to you and you will be fine. Your second time will be so much EASIER! After your first wax, the hair grows back finer and more sparse, becomes less prickly between waxing, and retains its smoothness longer. Also, when you are nervous or going through something our Aerector Pili muscles around the hair contract and make it more painful than necessary. I've only had one person in 2020 in my entire career, who couldn't complete the service. I've been told by seasoned pros and educators in my profession that my services are the least painful they've experienced. A long time esthetician and Bay Area sugar guruthe've left me a glowing review on yelp. I love knowing my clients are feeling the love and all the long time hard work and education I continually invest in, has paid off for you all.
ARE SKIN REACTIONS NORMAL AFTER SERVICES?
It is normal for your skin to show redness after waxing. Some skin is more sensitive than others and reactions may range from no redness at all to very red. The first time you wax an area, or if it has been a while since your last waxing, you will probably experience some redness and sensitivity afterward. This usually subsides within a few hours, or for very sensitive skin within 24 hours.
WHAT IF I GET RED OR WHITE BUMPS?
If you are prone to hives after waxing, you may treat the area with 1% hydrocortisone or aloe vera gel. The swelling normally goes away within 30 mins after waxing for most people. Breakouts or white bumps can be treated with tea tree oil or 1% hydrocortisone for 3-5 days. The more regular you become with waxing and if you follow the post-waxing tips, you will become less prone to breakouts.
WHAT DO I DO ABOUT INGROWN HAIRS?
Exfoliating in the shower with exfoliating gloves or a cloth every day helps to keep the skin free from cellular buildup which can trap hair. Gently exfoliate in an upward, circular motion against the hair growth. In addition, I recommend treating the affected area with TEA TREE daily, which helps to prevent and clear the skin of ingrown hair.
CAN MEDICATIONS AFFECT WAXING & SUGARING?
Yes! We CANNOT be waxed or sugared if you are taking any antibiotics, Accutane, Differin, or Retin A. Additionally, any medications that list “sun sensitivity” on the list of symptoms will preclude you from being waxed. You should also avoid waxing while using glycolic acid, harsh exfoliants, or any facial peels.
All these products thin out and weaken your skin making you more sensitive and prone to skin lifting. You should wait 2-6 weeks depending on how long you have been on the medication before you wax, as we want to make sure the medication is out of your system so you have a pleasant skin experience. If you are not sure of how you may react to any other prescriptions you are taking, please give me a call beforehand so I can help you determine if you are able to get waxed or sugared.
SHOULD I TAN BEFORE OR AFTER MY SERVICE?
We recommend that you do not tan before or at least 24 hours after. Also, don’t come in with a spray tan because the wax will exfoliate your tan right off! If necessary, it is OK to spray tan after waxing once the waxed area has had a few 24 hours to recover.
WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER, DARKER?
If this was true I would have bald-headed people lining up at my door!
No, it will not. Waxing removes the hair by the root, often weakening the root in the process. Therefore, if anything, waxing & may make the hair finer and sparser with repeated regular services.
CAN I STILL GET A BRAZILIAN IF I"M ON MY CYCLE?
Yes. If you are on your cycle just wear a CLEAN tampon and PLEASE TUCK IN THE STRING, and be prepared to be a little more sensitive than usual.
CAN I GET BIKINI SERVICES IF I'M PREGNANT?
Yes. You may be a little more sensitive than usual, but we regularly wax mothers-to-be up to a week before their due date! In fact, scheduling a “pre-childbirth Brazilian” is becoming almost as popular as packing an overnight bag for delivery!
HOW LONG DOES THE BRAZILIAN SERVICE TAKE?
The process is usually 20 minutes, but it just depends on how much hair needs to be removed.
Some guests can be in and out of the treatment room in under 15 minutes, if you are hairier or more sensitive it will usually take a few minutes longer. I customize services to each guest. These are just general time frames.
WHAT KIND OF WAX IS USED?
Strip wax is used for the pubic area. Hard wax is used in the inner-outer labia and anal area. The combination of both waxes provides the most gentle, effective Brazilian wax.
HOW LONG WILL SERVICE RESULTS LAST?
Waxing & sugaring may last up to 2 to 3 weeks. The more you do it, the longer it will last. It's recommended absolutely NO SHAVING or tweezing in that area between services
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE SERVICES DONE?
It's recommended every 3-4 weeks for any facial service and for body waxing, every 4-6 weeks, or when the hair is between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long for waxing or 1/3 inch for sugaring, which is usually every 3-4 weeks.
I HAVE A SPECIAL OCCASION ANY ADVICE?
If you are waxing or sugaring for the first time and have an event or special occasion, it is strongly recommended scheduling the same service 4 weeks PRIOR to make sure you have no adverse reactions (mentioned on the page above) for your special occasion.
WHAT IS SUGARING?
Sugaring was brought to this area by me in 2013. Sugaring is an ancient art of hair removal using a completely natural paste made from lemon, sugar, and water. It looks like honey but is even thicker. The paste is molded onto your skin against the direction of the hair growth, then quickly flicked off – removing the sugar paste, extracting your unwanted hair, and collecting dead skin cells. This ancient hand technique that allows for the hair to be extracted in the direction of its growth means less breakage and discomfort for you! It reduces waste because there are no sticks or strips. After your service, the paste and gloves are discarded and you are left with beautifully smooth skin. The up and growing trend of sugaring is great. This service can be FAST however, I don't just focus on speed. I focus on your results and comfort, which are of the utmost importance and you will not be crammed into an unrealistic time frame, so I can get to the next client. Sugar can not be cheated time-wise. It needs to go deep into the follicle to do its job correctly.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WAXING & SUGARING?
They are both hair removal options that have their place. There are many factors as to why waxing may be chosen over sugaring and vice versa. One example is someone may have waited too long between appointments and their hair is too long to be properly sugared.
HOW LONG DOES HAIR HAVE TO BE?
1/8″ – about the length of a grain of rice. Depending on how fast your hair grows, that is usually 10 – 14 days after your last shave.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
It all depends on what part of your body was Sugar’d, and how often you get Sugar’d. The short answer to this question is this: the more times you’re Sugar’d, the longer the hair stays away after each visit.
